The economic and social crisis that Europe is facing has led to a sharp decline in economic activity and recession. The labour market is being severely hit and unemployment rates are increasing thus negatively affecting the EU’s potential growth.
In this scenario, the aim is for Europe to become a smart, sustainable and inclusive economy. Inclusive means, among others, raising
Europe’s employment rates and helping people with fewer opportunities of all ages manage change through investment in skills and training.
Unemployment is particularly high among women and young people and this situation is exacerbated among disabled women who face a double discrimination: as women and as disabled people. In addition, these women are more vulnerable because of issues related to health-work balance,limited availability for training and access to resources, accesibility barriers, mental or psychological problems among others.
So, the general objective of READY WOMEN project is to offer new opportunities and innovative instruments to adult women with
disabilities for improving their qualifications and thus their levels of employability and integration into the labour market, mainly through training actions related to the New Yields of Employment (NYE) and emerging sectors.
The project will contribute to the Europe 2020 Strategy and targets regarding the role of education and training in social inclusion, empowering people and ensuring that citizens, in particular, adults disabled women with low levels of education, unemployed disabled women, and those who have left school early, can access lifelong learning and up-skilling throughout their lives and to improve their levels of employability and social skills.
First transnational project meeting – Seville, Spain
During the meeting partners had the chance to meet in person and create stronger personal connection, discuss and define the common approaches and tools to be utilised to implement the tasks.
Partners discussed future activities work plan and specified project target audience, discussed labour market and unemployment situation. Next step of the project will be the development of focus group.
During the meeting partners had the chance to explore Seville and Spanish culture during a tour.
Learning activities – Turin, Italy
The aim of the training was to gain knowledge on how to assist women with disabilities in the job search process by teaching women ICTs competences, social abilities, professional competences and soft skills.
Training Agenda was based on:
- Curricula and pedagogic materials aimed to the training of Transversal competences and soft skills for disabled women with fewer opportunities;
- Needs of disabled women at job searching;
- Job opportunities in NYE and emerging sectors for women with disabilities.
