Enhancing Media Literacy and Critical Thinking of Youth to Counter (Climate) Disinformation
TRUTH4YOUTH is a European initiative designed to strengthen young people’s capacity to navigate digital environments critically, responsibly, and with confidence. In a context where online spaces are increasingly shaped by misinformation, manipulation, and polarised narratives, the project responds to the urgent need to support young people in understanding how information is created, shared, and distorted.

The project places a particular focus on climate-related misinformation, recognising its growing impact on public opinion, trust in institutions, and democratic participation. Young people are often exposed to misleading or simplified narratives on sustainability, climate change, and civic issues, which can lead to confusion, disengagement, or the spread of false information. TRUTH4YOUTH addresses this gap by providing structured learning opportunities that combine digital literacy, critical thinking, and civic awareness. By equipping youth workers and young people with practical tools, methods, and competences, the project enables them not only to recognise and analyse disinformation, but also to actively respond to it. Participants develop fact-checking skills, explore pre-bunking strategies, and engage in the co-creation of alternative, evidence-based narratives.
At the same time, TRUTH4YOUTH promotes active citizenship by encouraging young people to move beyond passive consumption of information and take on a more engaged role in society. Through participatory learning approaches and collaborative activities, they are supported to express their views, contribute to public discourse, and take part in democratic processes.
